This is one of the oldest forms of natural medicine that uses the feet to treat physiological imbalances, restoring general health and wellness to the whole body. In reflexology every organ, gland and structure in the body can be mapped out on the soles of the feet or the palms of the hands. These specific areas are known as reflex points and when stimulated with applied pressure techniques, the reflex is able to affect its corresponding organ, gland or structure restoring an uninhibited flow of energy to optimise healing. A relaxing and grounding treatment.

Therapeutic Scalp Massage

This form of massage is derived from Ayurvedic tradition which aims to clear ‘blocks’ in energy channels, releasing tension in the shoulders, neck and scalp whilst allowing the mind to let go. No oil is used, just the skill of the therapist’s hands and touch.

Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage

with Matt McClelland

Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage are both great preventative treatments ideal for treating injuries and enhancing sporting performance. Both techniques work deep into the muscles, realigning the muscle fibres and connective tissue and flushing away toxins. Regular sessions will increase joint mobility and flexibility; and reduce the risk of injury during exercise.

You don’t need to be an athlete or sports person to benefit from these massages, many others such as office workers or long distance drivers can benefit too. Massage can help with everyday aches and pains, postural imbalances, aid the recovery processes between training sessions, improve blood circulation and tissue pliability, and prevent injury.

Acupuncture & Moxibustion

With Takako Owen

Acupuncture has been effectively used for the treatment of back pain, headache, migraine, and sports injuries. However, acupuncture provides more than pain relief. It is helpful in treating anxiety, insomnia, digestive problems, menstrual problems, weight control, infertility and much more.  Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which dried plant materials called “moxa” are burned on or very near the surface of the skin. The intention is to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi (your vital life-force energy) in the body and dispel certain pathogenic influences. When applied to acupuncture points that strengthen and lift the Qi, moxibustion can boost the immune system and help with pain, fatigue, digestive issues, and much more.

Takako is available on Tuesdays & Saturdays.

Shiatsu is a type of deep tissue massage. Like acupuncture, shiatsu aids the flow of energy through your body. Shiatsu works on the whole person  - not just with the physical body, but also with the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of being.

Shiatsu can be used in the treatment of a wide range of internal, musculoskeletal, and emotional conditions. It is thought to reduce muscle stiffness, stimulate the skin, aid digestion, and influence the nervous system. Shiatsu is used to treat a wide range of chronic conditions, such as headaches, PMS, digestive disorders, fatigue, insomnia, fibromyalgia, stress, anxiety, and musculoskeletal pain, including low back, neck, and joint pain. Shiatsu supports and strengthens the body’s natural ability to heal and balance itself.  In Japanese, the term ‘shiatsu’ means ‘finger pressure’ but practitioners also employ at times forceful pressure applied by an elbow or other parts of the therapist’s anatomy, as well as manipulative techniques to adjust the patient’s body.

Takako is available on Tuesdays & Saturdays.
