Are you looking for a new fitness challenge? Why not ride the Island with the Island Wellness Club & Spa team and join us in training for and completing the Isle of Wight Randonnee on the 3rd May 2020?!
 
Starting from next week, members who sign-up to the challenge will receive an outline 12 week training programme which will support you to get enough hours in the saddle and get you fit and ready to complete the challenge...along with a good dose of motivation.

The 12 week training programme has been put together by our in-house Level 2 Cycle Coach, Martin Sanders and is FREE for members. The programme includes a weekly training programme of classes as well as support, tips and advice on how to train for and successfully complete the 100K ride. Led by Martin, he will be your 'guide on the side' and support your training both on and off the bike to help you complete this tough but rewarding ride.

Non-members are welcome to join us for the challenge, simply sign up to our 4 month membership plan and receive this 12 week training programme for FREE as a member. What is the Randonnee?

The Isle of Wight Randonnee was established by the Wayfarers in 1985 and uniquely follows a route around the whole of the Isle of Wight taking minor roads and lanes where possible enabling the rider to see and enjoy the best of the Island's scenery. The event attracts around 3000 participants each year.

Do I need to have my own bike?

Yes - you need to own your own road worthy bike...Martin can help advise on equipment you require and also help with bike hire recommendations if needed.

How fit do I need to be to join the challenge?

In order to undertake this challenge and complete the full 100k you need to be relatively active and have a strong baseline fitness level - it's the equivalent of running a marathon. BUT you can split the challenge up and complete certain distance checkpoints - so EVERYONE is welcome to join and Martin will advise the best distance for you to train for.

All levels

These classes have been specifically designed to allow participants to work at their own intensity level, with the ability to modify all exercises according to their own personal fitness.

Beginner

A person new to training or an individual with below average fitness levels can be termed as a beginner. These classes are also suitable for those returning to exercise after a break/injury.

Intermediate

A person training at intermediate level should have a fair amount of base fitness and coordination and thus can be exposed to a higher intensity workout.

Advanced

At an advanced level, the participant should have experience in subjecting themselves to high intensity training on a regular basis. Every person starting off as a beginner should aspire to reach this level.
