Jo graduated with merit from the European School of Osteopathy in 2011 with an integrated Masters in Osteopathy and is a member of the General Osteopathic Council.  In addition, Jo is qualified to use myofascial acupuncture techniques, also called dry needling.

After gaining a law degree Jo worked in a variety of industries and having experienced both pressurised office and sporting environments, she understands the demands each can place on the body.  She has worked as a consultant at various back care clinics, providing advice on office ergonomics and management of the workplace environment, and also has a special interest in treating sports injuries and those with longstanding and arthritic conditions.

Why did you become an osteopath?

Having managed to injure almost every part of myself at some point, I came to appreciate the help that a good manual therapist can provide in fast tracking recovery, alongside self-help in the form of exercises and other lifestyle modifications.  I undertook the four years of training as a mature student which was a huge commitment, but one I gladly made in order to learn the skills to be able to make a real difference to people as part of a regulated form of healthcare.  I chose osteopathy because I find it to be a well-rounded approach that provides practitioners with a good selection of tools to treat each patient as an individual. It’s not just about focusing on an isolated pain,  but looking at the body - and treating it - as a whole.  Having the time with each person coming in to develop a working relationship that can have a hugely positive effect on wellbeing and quality of life is a fantastic privilege, for which I am grateful every time I work.

Apart from osteopathy, what are your interests?

Away from osteopathy, I am also a qualified Cordon Bleu chef. I adore cooking (eating) and baking (eating) and have recently started a business making wedding cakes and sugar-flowers which I just love doing.  I also exercise (a lot), ride my bike, like to sign up for physical challenges (I swam across The Solent this summer and hated it, but that’s another story), and doing almost anything outdoors. One day, I will have a horse. Laughing at my own jokes is my other favourite past time, but don’t be misled - I take helping people feel better very seriously.

The first consultation is typically up to an hour long.  During this time I will take a case history, where we will discuss why you have come in and the back ground to your current presentation, as well as looking at your posture and movement to find where you have restrictions and/or discomfort.  This leads to a discussion about:

  • The working diagnosis of your presenting complaint
  • A suitable treatment plan

Treatment will usually begin at this first appointment.  I tend to explain a lot as we go, but you should always feel able to ask questions if there is something which is unclear or which you are unsure about.

Follow up appointments are half an hour, and will include a review of progress, any necessary modifications to your treatment and prognosis, and usually some sort of exercises or homework to start doing.

At all stages, you should feel informed and confident in both me and the process.   Your ongoing consent will be sought throughout - treatment is about you and your body.  The objective is to get you to feel better and I think this always works best as a collaborative approach.  I can help you, but the best results always come if you are prepared to help yourself as well.

All levels

These classes have been specifically designed to allow participants to work at their own intensity level, with the ability to modify all exercises according to their own personal fitness.

A person new to training or an individual with below average fitness levels can be termed as a beginner. These classes are also suitable for those returning to exercise after a break/injury.

A person training at intermediate level should have a fair amount of base fitness and coordination and thus can be exposed to a higher intensity workout.

At an advanced level, the participant should have experience in subjecting themselves to high intensity training on a regular basis. Every person starting off as a beginner should aspire to reach this level.

Online booking is available for members for classes, activities and spa treatments.
Non-members can book our spa treatments online, and please call 01983 766222 to book classes or activities.
