Take a walk on the wild side this March

Known as the ‘Garden Isle’ because of its beautiful landscape scenery, the Island is a haven of unspoilt beaches, rugged coastline and beautiful countryside. More than half the Island is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and almost 30 miles of the seashore is designated as Heritage Coast – no wonder Keats, Tennyson and Dickens all found inspiration here. Exploring the beauty of the Island is easy with over 500 miles of award-winning public footpaths and 200 miles of cycle paths. If you’re a wildlife enthusiast, then why not head down the road to Newtown National Nature Reserve on 22nd March from 10am-12.30pm and join the highly popular Winter Bird Walk.  It’s the only National Nature Reserve on the Island, and is full of flower-rich hay meadows and ancient woodlands that come alive with birds during the Spring time. It is advised that wellingtons are worn in case it is wet underfoot, and binoculars are a must-have! The walk is free of charge but donations are welcome. For more information, please call 01983 741020 or visit http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/newtown-national-nature-reserve/events.
