Top 5 tips for stress-free summer travel

Wightlink Ferry We’ve all seen the news – summer holiday travel isn’t always easy. But it doesn’t have to be a disaster! Here are our top tips to ensure the summer holiday fun starts from the get-go.

1. Take your time

Your family holiday should start as soon as you leave your front door, not just when you reach your destination. If time allows, take the scenic route and stop for a picnic, or plan a stop at a landmark on the way.

2. Travel closer to home

You don’t have to fly or even leave the country to have an amazing summer holiday. Staying in the UK can mean fewer queues and a less stressful journey. British destinations have everything you need for a great holiday, from beautiful beaches and family friendly activities, to rich local culture and locally sourced, seasonal food. There will always be something to do come rain or shine! Who needs to go abroad?

3. Plan ahead

No matter how short the journey, kids are bound to get bored quickly. Why not plan fun family games for the car to keep them occupied? Never underestimate the power of a good old game of I Spy or Mini Punch. Or, pack a rucksack full of colouring books, puzzle games and healthy snacks to ensure a smooth journey.

4. Get out the map

Forget the sat nav and let older kids plan the journey and help with directions. You can even pick out landmarks for them to spot to keep track of the journey and pre-empt cries of “are we there yet?”

5. Audio books

Audio books are a great way to prevent boredom and keep kids happy on long journeys. Plus, you’re less likely to end up with a carsick child than with a DVD or iPad game! At The West Bay Club we make our guests’ journey as simple as possible. One call does it all – the cost of the ferry is included in your break, and we’ll even book it for you!
