Forageing, farm shops and fabulous food
With long hours of sunshine, rich and fertile soils, and its southerly location, the Isle of Wight is a gourmet paradise producing fruit and vegetables that burst with flavour; rich and creamy local cheeses and dairy produce; with fresh fish and shellfish available around our shores; and organically reared meats and poultry that are reared on the lush pastures that stretch across the Island.
Local craft breweries, award winning vineyards, cider makers and vodka producers add to the experience and ensure that the Island is firmly on the foodie map.
Around our shores you will find restaurants selling foraged fare, cafes selling mouth-watering home-made delicacies, crab shacks, farm shops and roadside produce stands – all providing food fresh from the soil and seas.
At West Bay we love…
The Red Lion, Freshwater
Just up the road from us is the Red Lion pub. A recent change of hands has breathed fresh life into this charming pub that’s full of character. The team pride themselves on providing “good beer and fine wines to accompany the very best local fish, meat and vegetables.” With an extensive herb garden too they ensure that all ingredients are as fresh as can be.
Off the Rails, Yarmouth
In the charming village of Yarmouth is Off the Rails, a popular bistro serving a beautifully fresh array of traditional favourites with a modern touch. Housed in the former Yarmouth Train Station, there are still a few quirky touches of railway memorabilia adorning the interior. Ideal for children and situated just off the cycle path, it’s the perfect stop on a family day out. We’re delighted that Off the Rails would like to offer our West Bay foodie guests a complimentary carafe of house wine to groups of two people or a bottle of house wine for groups of four people when they enjoy a two course meal. Simply quote WEST BAY OFFER.
The Garlic Farm, Newchurch
A firm favourite on the Island is the Garlic Farm which not only grows garlic, but cooks and makes a fabulous array of produce from the garlic that grows through the fertile soils of the Island’s centre. People travel from all across the Island for their hearty, comforting, delicious home-grown farm shop dishes as well as to shop and explore the farm itself. Why not pick up some growing or cooking tips whilst you’re there.
